🍒 Update & Modernize Your Old Oak Furniture➔ Quickly & Easily *PLUS* How to DIY Paint & Distress

I recently updated an old oak kitchen hutch with brass hinges and scratched counter. Easy job: clean, patch, sand, paint, seal, and distress. Of course, remove all the hardware (knobs, hinges, etc.) and use painter's tape. This special chalk paint avoids the need for sanding prior, although depending on your situation you may have to use deglosser and lightly sand/etch the surfaces. If you do have any "bleeding" from the oak's stain, try using white spray paint (this did the trick for me!) or a stain-blocking primer. Doesn't have to be perfect since inconsistencies blend well with the white and gray distressed look. To distress: sand the edges/corners using 150 or 220 grit sandpaper. Keep distressing as needed. To end, seal the surface with an aged poly. 2-3 coats. This could also serve as a painted white and gray DIY kitchen island if you remove the top and replace with quartz or granite slab.
